Did NIH get a clue, or is this just lipservice?
I think it's a sad commentary on our times that
a) this committee needs to exist (and should have, a long time ago)
and
b) the announcement reads as if it's NEWS that women have untapped potential.

ugh, how sad.
you're right - you'd expect that, by this point, special allowances wouldn't have to be made anymore. you'd hope that people would still not distinguish between legitimacy of male/female research or talks or papers or productivity. but there it is.
selfishly, a part of me takes delight in seeing these things, as it typically means more funding and a strangely selective form of favoritism that i don't mind taking fully advantage of...
