Slow day.

Maybe because I was tired, got no data and nothing interesting happened, today felt about a thousand hours long.

And yet, here we are and it's almost over.

Now the big debate: stick around just for appearances? Maybe just a little longer.

Drag self to the gym? Definitely should.

Go to bed early? Really, really want to.

Yes, exactly, that was my day as well! I hate Mondays, it always seems like there's nothing going on, and I end up leaving work, bored out of my mind, at 4 to beat the Monday crowd at the gym. I can't even be bothered with trying to put up appearances by staying around longer. Somehow its worse in the summer with half the lab gone away on vacation somewhere.

I say go to the gym and then home to sleep. Screw appearances. I'm so not a fan of face time.

If you haven't already seen it, you may want to check out John Tierney's new "findings" on gender bias in science. (We women just don't *like* hard sciences! That's the whole reason for the bias! And now the poor Mars rover teams are going to have to suffer because women want a level playing field!)

It also doesn't help that I read that right after reading an article on the CNN.com front page about how working moms are evil and heartless.

Now I'm wishing I had gone to bed earlier...but maybe a late-night cocktail will cancel out the outrage and let me sleep...

As it turns out, face time is more important than ever for me. My PI is a total workaholic and can't understand that some of us are actually pretty good at the bench, good at time management, and are living, breathing evidence that it's possible to work smart, rather than always blinding plowing forward with brute force.

Yeah, can't win there. Face time is in some ways easier, even if all I'm doing is putzing around on my computer.

labrat,

I did not know about John Tierney. I HATE this shit.

Let's see, what is the best evidence for bias or barriers? ALL THE SHIT I'VE HAD TO PUT UP WITH IN SCIENCE.

I would so love to do a Freaky Friday with guys like this. I would love it to be that time of the month when they have to be me, complete with cramps, sexist jokes, the whole bit. One day of that, and they'd be crying for mercy.

Or maybe something more like Mel Gibson in What Women Want would do the trick? Pantyhose and shaving?

Oh, for a magic wand.
